 On this Hiroshima Day, we bend an ear to General Lee Butler, who was Commander-in-Chief of the United States Strategic Command Air Base in Nebraska, with responsibility for all US Air Force and Navy strategic nuclear weaponry, until his retirement in 1994.

The excerpt above is from Butler’s 2002 essay, Death by Deterrence. Best read as a continuous loop while playing “Nuclear War” by Sun Ra, who would be celebrating his 100th birthday on earth this year, had he not decided to return to his native planet of Neptune.
